GNATS – God Not Another Transfer System. |
|
| |
GNATS is a transfer system whereby all opening bids form 1♣ to 1♠ are artificial. The one-level opening bids are: - |

| |
|
|
| |
| 1♣ |
= |
15+; c's or d's or balanced |
| 1♦ |
= |
11+; 5+ h's |
| 1♥ |
= |
11+; 5+ s's |
| 1♠ |
= |
11-14; clubs or diamonds, unbalanced |
| 1NT |

11-14; balanced |

One of the main benefits of playing transfers is the strong hand (usually opener) gets to be declarer; I simply cannot see the benefits of this system unless it is to disrupt the opponents. It is only licensed in top level competitions. |
|
| |
The system was devised by Barry Regal and if you really want to know more about it is described in the October 1996 edition of Bridge World magazine. |
