Pattaya is Thailand's fun city, situated on the (tsunami free) Gulf of Thailand.

And now as well as sea, sun, sand and.... we also have Bridge! We have three afternoon duplicate sessions every week costing around three dollars a session.
And with the renowned nightlife activities why not enjoy a holiday with everything?

In Janurary 2006 the club moved to the luxurious Mercure Hotel. Click on the 'Contact Us' link for details of location etc.

Pattaya Bridge Club meets 3 times a week. Visitors of all standards (with or without partner) are welcome. Click the 'Contact Us' or 'Map' link for the latest information.

And now it's time to give you a general guide to this web-site. On the left there are numerous links to send you off into various different areas, or you can click on the blue links in this section.

Obviously 'results' are simply recent results from club sessions.

News-sheets are written every week and are quite entertaining and contain mainly bidding problems and a bidding quiz, with all of the deals coming from the previous week's bridge_club sessions.

I am often repeatedly asked the same questions - the answers to many of them are in FAQs - Frequently Asked Questions.

The 'conventions' link explains numerous conventions and treatments/agreements (and it is expanding all the time). Check it out - there's quite a lot of new stuff here.

What's new? We are continually adding to the site and this link indicates items of interest that have been added recently. Don't worry if you miss a week or two as there is a history of all of the old 'What's new?'s

There are people of various standards in the club and 'local rules' indicates a few deviations from 'standard'.

The rules regarding alerts, announcements, pre-alerts etc keep on changing. Some of this is covered in the 'Local Rules' section above. The 'Alert Procedures' link gives a recent (2005) ACBL definition and I state a couple of points where it differs at our club.

Some abbreviations or terminology may be unfamiliar to some readers. Just click on the link to get a full list of abbreviations etc. used in this web site. There is always a brief explanation and sometimes a link off to somewhere where it is explained in more detail.

Now there are numerous different scoring methods used in Bridge, and I am often asked about it. Incidentally, I would give this lovely young lady 10/10 for this picture taken at the Sriracha Tiger Zoo near Pattaya. Anyway, the 'scoring at bridge' link gives a fairly comprehensive guide to all aspects of scoring.

Most players at the club play the Standard American system, and that is what is taught when lessons are given. The Basic Bidding link gives some tips for beginners/improvers. And the Basic conventions link explains a few of the most common coventions.

How much is a hand worth? The Milton Work method (4 for an ace etc.) is obviously very useful, but there are many other things to consider. Singleton honours are poor, honours in long suits are good. All of this and much more is explained in the 'Hand Evaluation' link.

There are also a number of additional links that are very interesting, especially to more advanced players: -

This site is very new and under development, but we are continually adding to the site. In particular, many new advanced bidding concepts will be added. The advanced book on NT bidding is now complete on the web and you can expect much more in other areas soon. Keep in touch with this web-site and watch the improvements. And let us know what you think!

And now it's time for some of real the goodies: -

How well do you (and your partner) know all of the sequences after a 1NT opening? Just click NT Questions for a few questions and see how many you (and your partner!) can answer.

1NT (Stayman and transfers etc.) bidding for the 21st century. This book is completely new and not available in any bookshop. It is probably (scrap that - most definitely) the most comprehensive book on the subject ever written and contains everything you need to know about 1NT and subsequent bidding - and so it should do - it's over 250 pages! Anything you need to know about 1NT bidding is easily looked up here. But be warned - it is quite advanced. The version on the web is for the strong NT; if there is demand, I will put up the weak NT version at a later date. Please e-mail any comments.

The club library of bridge books has now expanded to 150+ titles. The books are free for members to borrow, simply ask me for the title you want. Click Library for a complete list of titles /authors

And if your'e planning to visit Bangkok, there are a number of bridge clubs there. The Bangkok bridge link gives a schedule of some of them.

Bridge links gives a list and description of some other interesting bridge websites.
